Different ways to experience Whole Body Cryo

So by now you should be familiar with the benefits of whole body cryotherapy (WBC) including:

  • Rejuvenated muscles and skin

  • Boosted energy levels and metabolic rate

  • Better sleep

  • Increased collagen production in your skin

  • Reduced inflammation

  • Improved immunity

  • The release of endorphins, inducing analgesia (immediate pain relief)

But did you know there are different ways to experience your WBC?

There is the cryochamber, which is an electrically cooled large contained space, much like a walk-in freezer.

Then there is the cryosauna, which is what we at LondonCryo favour with our  CryoCabin™.  A cryosauna is cooled with liquid nitrogen which allows it to get even colder at -110°C, than a cryochamber which usually only goes down to -85°C.

Look, we think all cryotherapy is great, but for the maximum benefits it’s recommended to go down to -110°C (-166°F), which is when cryotherapy starts to do its thing. This is why we love the cryosauna. Importantly, in addition to being more effective, the cryosauna is more comfortable — your head is elevated above the nitrogen so no claustrophobia problems (many people find the confined space of the cryochamber a bit daunting). Since your head is out there’s no need for headband, earmuffs or a respiratory mask, unlike in the cryochamber. In our CryoCabin™ cryosauna you can chat to your lovely LondonCryo tech throughout the process, so you always feel safe and comfortable.

And there is no need to freeze your face! The skin and the whole area is more delicate and there is more of a chance of headache, earache or even chapped lips. A recent study designed by noted sports scientist Dr Julien Louis, with research teams from U.C. Davis and the National Institute of Sport, Exercise, and Performance in Paris, France, compared the two methods of cryotherapy. The experiment, called “The Louis Study”, was published in a peer-reviewed article and found the restorative benefits were the same even with the head out of the cold.

According to Dr Louis, “…the key factor influencing the body response to cryostimulation might be the magnitude of the reduction of body temperature rather than the head cooling.”

So, despite your head being above the nitrogen, this is still whole body cryotherapy as your whole body responds to the treatment.

The cryosauna is also more environmentally friendly, as it can be switched off when not in use and uses as much electricity as a television.  Better for you, better for the environment the cryosauna is a win for everyone.
