Whole Body Cryotherapy
What is cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a fast and healthy process that accelerates the body’s natural recovery while improving overall wellbeing and energising the body. Cryotherapy is a dry, noninvasive, process that lowers a person’s skin temperature to 5ºC during a session of up to 180 seconds. Whilst inside the CryoCabin™, the body is enveloped by mist pulsating at a temperature of -140ºC.
Is this the same as an ice bath?
WBC is a more advanced, efficient form of ice therapy: ice baths can last up to 20 minutes, are painful and damaging to the skin. Ice baths involve actual tissue-freezing that can cause stiffness and immobility. In contrast, WBC lasts only 3 minutes, its not painful and does not freeze tissue. In fact, after a WBC session, mobility is improved, along with reduced inflammation and pain. Cryotherapy tricks the brain into thinking it is hypothermic, which triggers its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and metabolic benefits.
Should I have this before or after excercise?
Either! Cryotherapy before exercise or a race/event will heighten both your physical and mental performance by improving blood flow and oxygenation, boosting the metabolic rate and activating adrenaline and endorphin release. You will have more energy, stamina and less pain.
Cryotherapy after athletic exertion will speed muscle healing, cell renewal and recovery while reducing inflammation and pain. Ideally, you should utilise cryotherapy both before and after important athletic events.
Some experts recommend engaging in 5 minutes of light exercise post-cryotherapy treatment. This will stabilise your body’s temperature as well as promote vasodilatation (expansion of the body’s blood vessels). Movement will induce more rapid vasodilatation of the vessels and capillaries and can extend the period of analgesia as well as feelings of well-being.
Is this a proven recovery session?
Yes. Cryotherapy has been around for decades and used in Europe and Asia for almost thirty years. In fact, over the past seven years, more than two million sessions have been completed in Europe using CryoCabins.
Can cryotherapy speed up recovery?
Absolutely. Depending on the severity of your injury, recovery times will vary, but most assuredly will be improved. We welcome the opportunity to assist and document your case.
I’m pregnant, can I have whole body cryotherapy?
Congratulations! However, you shouldn’t use whole body cryotherapy while pregnant so please get in touch after the baby is born.
What should I wear?
Men: Dry socks, slippers, gloves (provided by LondonCryo) and your briefs/shorts.
Women: Dry socks, slippers, gloves (provided by LondonCryo) and your undergarments or bathing suit. Don’t worry because one of our certified operators will ensure you are wearing proper attire.
How safe is whole body cryotherapy?
You will have the safest experience possible at LondonCryo. We’ve taken great measures implementing advanced technology for client safety. In fact, no other equipment on the planet is as safe! Our CryoCabins have multiple safety features. A session can be terminated by you, by the LondonCryo certified operator and even automatically. Designed by our brilliant engineers, an ultrasonic sensor will trigger an immediate stop and open the cabin door automatically releasing all the vapour from within the cabin should your head go below the top rim even for just a few seconds. For additional safety, protective gloves, socks, undergarments, and slippers are worn to protect sensitive areas. During a session, your head remains above the top rim of the cabin to allow constant communication with the certified operator.
How often should I have whole body cryotherapy?
We recommend eight sessions during the first two weeks to allow the body to adjust and realise new habits; thereafter an effective regiment would be 3 sessions a week. No more than twice a day if you are in heavy training or rehab. A regiment of two or three times a week is generally adequate for most.
Will I feel claustrophobic in the Cryocabin?
You shouldn’t. We elevate your body by raising the floor to ensure your head is above the rim of the CryoCabin. Furthermore, the door is never locked. If needed, you can always push open the door and step out of the CryoCabin. A LondonCryo certified operator would always be present.
I’m still in school can I have cryotherapy?
Yes, with parental consent. If you are under the age of 18 years, your parent or guardian must come with you! And, no, you can’t bring a note.
Can I wear metal or jewellery?
No. All objects must be removed including watches, rings etc. Your changing room is locked while you are having treatment.
Cryoskin
WHAT IS CRYOSKIN?
CRYOSKIN is the latest technology for fat loss and skin toning treatments. N°1 in France, it is now available in the UK. The machine offers 3 treatments: CryoSlimming (fat freezing) destroys fat cells, CryoToning tightens and smooths the skin of any body part, CryoFacelift tightens and rejuvenates the skin of the face.
HOW DOES A CRYOSLIMMING (FAT FREEZING) TREATMENT WORK?
The practitioner massages the treatment zone with the handset, applying low temperatures. One session lasts around 30 minutes depending on the body area (14 minutes for the double chin). The treatment consists of 2 phases of circa 15 minutes each, allowing the practitioner to treat symmetrically any part of the body or the limbs. Each phase starts with a warm period and then the temperature drops quickly to negative (Thermal Shock).
IS IT SAFE?
CryoSlimming treatments are natural as we only use cold. There are no injections and no radiation of any type. Over 70 scientific and clinical papers have been published by renowned doctors and researchers which demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of cryolipolysis treatments when applied correctly. Furthermore, CRYOSKIN is the safest and most efficient cryolipolysis device on the market. CRYOSKIN uses no suction cups. There is no risk of damage to the skin.
HOW EFFICIENT IS THE TREATMENT?
With CRYOSKIN you can lose on average between 1 and 2 cm per session (30 min). We recommend 5 sessions to completely treat one body area (depending on the size of the area). R&D tests have shown a 38% average fat loss in 5 thirty-minute sessions. Please note that results may vary from one person to another as people do react differently to the treatment.
CAN I TREAT ANY PART OF THE BODY?
CRYOSKIN can be used for treating most parts of the body, thanks to the flexibility and the precision of the handset. The only part of the body that cannot be treated with cryolipolysis is the breast. It is not possible to do cryolipolysis on the face neither, but it is possible to treat the double chin and the fat under the jaws.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO TREAT DIFFERENT AREAS AT THE SAME TIME?
With CRYOSKIN, we can treat only one area at the time as the treatment is performed manually by the practitioner. The length of one treatment is 30 minutes maximum. It is important not to exceed this period to avoid overloading the kidneys with waste. It is worth mentioning that only CRYOSKIN is capable of reaching a temperature as low as -8°C and maintaining it uniformly during the whole treatment. This is why you can obtain very good results with CRYOSKIN in just 30 minutes; however, the production of waste is quite significant even if the treatment is short.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Nothing. Please wear comfortable clothing (if having a body treatment). Just stick to the best possible diet and lifestyle to accompany the treatments. For best results, do not eat sugar 2 hours before and after the session, as sugar will give energy to the fat cells and reduce the efficiency of the treatment. If possible, avoid all kinds of sugar 4-5 hours before and after the CryoSlimming session (2 hours is the minimum). This applies to all kinds of sugar (pasta, rice, bread, cereals...) and of course fast sugar and drinks with sugar.
WHAT IS CRYOSLIMMING (FAT FREEZING)?
CryoSlimming is the use of low temperatures to eliminate the fat cells located under the skin. It is one of the most efficient fat loss treatments on the market. The low temperatures cause the fat cells to die naturally (apoptosis). The dead fat cells are then disposed of via the lymphatic system and normal body processes within 2 to 3 weeks.
HOW DOES IT FEEL?
The feeling is rather pleasant thanks to the start of the treatment which is done with a short period of skin warming before a gradual but rapid decrease of the temperature (Thermal Shock). When the temperature reaches negative levels (down to -8°C for large body zones), the treated area is slightly numbed by the cold. This is why clients usually say they don’t really realise that the temperature is that cold. At the end of the treatment, a short warm phase gives a feeling of warmth and lightness at the same time.
HOW OFTEN CAN I HAVE A TREATMENT?
After the treatment, it will take circa 15 days for the lymphatic system to eliminate the dead fat cells waste. It is thus recommended to wait 2 weeks between two CRYOSKIN CryoSlimming sessions to allow the kidneys to process the waste.
WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?
There is an immediate loss of centimetres at the end of the CryoSlimming session, but the final result will be achieved 15 days later when the elimination of waste will be complete.
IS THE RESULT PERMANENT?
CryoSlimming literally destroys the fat cells, whereas some other methods like ultrasounds or rolling massage empty them. With a CryoSlimming treatment, once the fat cells are gone, they will never return, although a healthy diet and exercise regime are necessary after the treatment to prevent the remaining fat cells from inflating.
CAN ANYBODY BE TREATED?
CryoSlimming treatments are natural as we only use cold. Thus, there are very few contraindications, the main ones being pregnancy, cancer and allergy to cold. A consent form mentioning all contraindications will be presented to all clients by their practitioner during the assessment interview. It is worth mentioning that CryoSlimming treatments can be performed on any man or woman over 18 (or over 16 with parental consent). Please note that CryoSlimming is a technique to reduce localised body fat and lose cm, it is not a solution for losing weight.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?
There are few: sometimes localised redness will appear but this disappears after a few hours. Sometimes some local discomfort that rarely exceeds 2 to 3 hours. There may also be some temporary itching without consequences.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TREATMENT?
CryoSlimming treatment is very convenient. There is no downtime, you’re ready to go once a session is finished. Just make sure you drink a lot of water just after the treatment and during the 15 days after to maximise the drainage of the waste.
Cryotoning & Cryofacial
WHAT ARE CRYOTONING AND CRYOFACial?
CryoToning and CryoFacial treatments work exactly in the same way, using cold temperatures around 0°C to rejuvenate and tighten the skin. The pumping effect of blood system caused by the alternating of cold and warm increases the oxygen and nutrient supply to the cells stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. There is also a draining effect. It is possible to treat any part of the body (CryoToning) or the face (CryoFacelift).
HOW DOES IT FEEL?
The treatment is very comfortable. There is no initial warm period as the objective here is not fat freezing. The client can feel the cold temperatures during the session, but as the temperature is not very low and the beauty therapist soothes the treated zones with her hand after passing the handset, the cold sensation is very light.
IS IT SAFE?
CryoToning and CryoFacial treatments are natural as they only use cold. It is the modern ice bath. There is no abrasion and no injections, treatment is kind to the skin.
WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULT?
Results are visible just after the first session.
IS THE RESULT PERMANENT?
CryoToning and CryoFacial effects are not permanent as the skin ages. To maximise the results, one session every week for 5 weeks is recommended (for the same area), and then 1 session per month for maintenance. This treatment plan will cumulative effect and help to maintain a higher production of collagen and elastin.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Nothing. Please wear comfortable clothing (if having a body treatment). Just stick to the best possible diet and lifestyle to accompany the treatments. Drink plenty of water in particular if doing a CryoToning Cellulite to help in draining the cellulite dimples.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE TREATMENT?
CryoToning and CryoFacial treatments are very convenient. There is no downtime, you’re ready to go once a session is finished. It is recommended to hydrate the skin with a cream after the treatment (both body and face), as hydration is the base of anti-ageing treatments.
HOW DOES A CRYOTONING OR CRYOFACial TREATMENT WORK?
The practitioner will massage the treatment zone using the handset, applying low temperatures. One session lasts between 20 and 30 minutes depending on the body area (20 minutes for the face). The treatment consists of 2 phases of 10 to 15 minutes each allowing the practitioner to treat symmetrically any part of the body, the limbs or the face.
HOW EFFICIENT ARE THE TREATMENTS?
CryoToning: the pumping effect of the blood system caused by the alternating of cold and warm opens the blood vessels increasing oxygen and nutrient supply to the cells with a draining effect. The skin appears instantly smoother and firmer. CryoToning treatments can be performed on any part of the body (cleavage, arms, breast, etc.) for a tightening effect on the skin, or to treat cellulite as the lymphatic drainage resulting from the treatment will help in eliminating cellulite dimpling.
CryoFacelift: the increase in nutrient and oxygen supply boosts collagen and elastin production, improving the elasticity of the skin. The skin pores retract with the cold for a glowing effect. The face appears fresher and younger. Skin is noticeably tighter, and wrinkles visibly reduced in just one twenty-minute session.
HOW OFTEN CAN I HAVE A TREATMENT?
It is possible to do a CryoToning treatment every week on the same area, but you can do multiple areas on the same day or on different days during the same week. It is possible to do a CryoFacelift treatment every week. It is also possible to combine CryoToning or CryoFacelift treatments with CryoSlimming Treatments on the same day (but not on the same body zone), for example you can do a CryoSlimming abdomen, followed by a CryoFacelift or a CryoToning Cellulite.
CAN ANYBODY BE TREATED?
CryoToning and CryoFacial treatments are natural as they only use cold. Thus, there are very few contraindications, the main ones being cancer, allergy to cold, breast implants (only for CryoToning targeting the breasts firmness), Botox/hyaluronic fillers (only for CryoFacelift and only if injected less than 2 months ago). A consent form mentioning all contraindications will be presented to all clients by their practitioner during the assessment interview. It is worth mentioning that CryoToning and CryoFacelift treatments can be performed on any man or woman over 18 (or over 16 with a parental consent).
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?
There are very few side effects: sometimes localised redness that disappears after a few hours, sometimes some local discomfort that rarely exceeds 2 to 3 hours. There may also be some itching without consequences and often due to the reactions of certain cosmetic products used by clients.
